Barclays Center Holiday Invitational

November 28, 2015

Saint Louis 57 - Louisville 77

Saint Louis Head Coach Jim Crews

On today’s game:

“(Louisville) is a quick, physical team and we weren’t able to rebound with them very well at all. Their number 12 (Mangok Mathiang) is really good. He’s a really, really good player. He has such long arms and soft hands. He’s got great desire and second effort around the glass. He makes it difficult for you. They were getting buckets near the rim. Since we weren’t as long we weren’t getting buckets near the rim. I thought that was the main difference.”

“Louisville switches their defense and we got caught up in their switching when we should not be getting caught up in that. When we were cutting and screening and moving the ball we got good looks. When we started being stagnant because they would switch or play a little zone, then it became problematic for us…Our whole thing is predicated on reading the defense so we have to do a better job of that.”

“We might have passed up a couple good shots. Louisville is long and runs at you, so sometimes you think you aren’t quite open when maybe you were. They are coming at you with long guys. We started getting tentative around the outside not looking in. We didn’t have great movement.”

“We are very young and we are not physically strong yet. That is part of the growing process. We did a lot of good things, but we need to get consistent with it…We need to start being stronger emotionally and mentally with our purpose. These guys are doing better with that.”
