BARCLAYS CENTER AND LIRR COLLABORATE TO ENHANCE TRAIN EXPERIENCE FOR ISLANDERS GAMES

Feb 24, 2016

BROOKLYN (February 24, 2016) - Barclays Center and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) continue to collaborate to improve the service for Islanders fans traveling to games in Brooklyn.

Beginning with the March 8 game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Barclays Center, there will be transit ambassadors posted at the Atlantic Avenue – Barclays Center subway station exit and on the arena’s plaza to assist fans taking the LIRR to and from games without issue. In addition, LIRR has increased the number of ushers in Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica Station to help riders.

As an added enhancement, LIRR riders traveling to Islanders games at Barclays Center before the end of the season will enjoy surprise visits onboard from Islanders legends or Sparky the Dragon.

The LIRR and Barclays Center formed a partnership last October, prior to the start of the Islanders inaugural season in Brooklyn, and have worked together throughout the season to monitor ridership trends to and from games. On average, about 5,000 fans are taking the LIRR to each Islanders game at Barclays Center.

Barclays Center will continue to communicate train schedules in real-time during Islanders games on arena monitors located throughout the concourse and on the center hung scoreboard.
