Barclays Center
Barclays Center opened on September 28, 2012 and is a major sports and entertainment venue in the heart of Brooklyn, New York. Owner Joe Tsai serves as its chairman. Barclays Center was developed by Brooklyn-based real estate company Forest City and designed by the award-winning architectural firms AECOM (https://www.aecom.com/architecture) and SHoP Architects (https://www.shoparc.com). The venue has one of the most intimate seating configurations ever designed into a modern multi-purpose arena, with unparalleled sightlines and first-class amenities. The venue offers 17,553 seats for basketball and up to 19,000 seats for concerts and other events. Consistently named a top 10 global arena by Billboard and Pollstar, Barclays Center is home to the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and the WNBA’s New York Liberty, as well as major concerts, boxing events, family shows, and college basketball.
Since opening, Barclays Center has established itself as an industry leader in sports and entertainment, hosting some of the greatest entertainers in the world in addition to major events, such as the MTV Video Music Awards, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies, NBA All-Star weekend, NBA Drafts, and special New Year’s Eve shows.
Barclays Center has also established ground-up boxing and college basketball platforms. The arena brought professional championship boxing back to the borough for the first time since 1931 and has hosted more than 250 bouts and 60 title fights. Barclays Center brings many of the nation’s top college basketball programs to Brooklyn annually, which has included the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship first and second rounds the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship, the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, as well as other tournaments including the NIT Season Tip Off, CBS Sports Classic, Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational and Women’s Championship Classic.
Barclays Center has redefined the arena customer service and culinary experience. The Brooklyn Taste food program features selections from well-known restaurants and local vendors in the borough. From VIP experiences to unprecedented access to world-class service from Disney-trained staff, guests will enjoy the best that live entertainment has to offer. Crown Club®, the premium courtside lounge designed in partnership with Major Food Group and interior designer Ken Fulk, is located just steps from the basketball court and easily accessible from the best seats in the house. Gallagher Terrace, a premium membership club offering the arena’s only in-seat dining with waiter service, and Modelo Bridge, an upper concourse fan zone featuring the most expansive bar at Barclays Center and accessible to all guests provide a distinct and elevated experience for guests in all seating locations. Other premium spaces in the arena include the Qatar Airways Club; The Toki Row, inspired by the historic brownstones in Brooklyn and featuring an elegantly designed atmosphere; and JetBlue at The Key, an in-arena club experience that combines the excitement at center court with a communal atmosphere.
Barclays Center has also been recognized for its sustainability efforts. The U.S. Green Building Congress awarded LEED® Silver Certification for New Construction to Barclays Center, the first arena or stadium in New York to achieve this status for its sustainable design and construction methods. In 2016, Barclays Center completed the installation of its 135,000-square-foot green roof; the largest-ever green roof to cover a sporting venue.
The green roof reduces the amount of storm water runoff from the building, minimizes the roof’s reflected heat, and provides a more appealing visual for people visiting and living around the arena.Located atop one of the largest transportation hubs in New York City, Barclays Center is accessible by 11 subway lines, the Long Island Rail Road, and 11 bus lines.
