Cincinnati 61 – George Washington 56

George Washington Head Coach Mike Lonergan

“We wanted to take away their inside game. They were going inside and we were allowing their bigs to go left-shoulder and manhandle us inside. That is why we started the second half in a 1-3-1; to try to take away their inside game, and hoped that they wouldn’t get the ball inside as easily as they did. We made a lot of threes in the first half which kept us in the game, but I didn’t think we played real well except for our outside shooting. Our bigs really struggled against (Cincinnati).”

“I thought we got some good looks (from three). We were 8 for 11 in the first half, 3 for 11 in the second half. I think we are one of the best teams in the country getting to the foul line, but for whatever reason we shot four free throws while they shot triple that.”

“Give (Cincinnati) credit. The ball bounced their way. I thought the ball was in the cylinder one time but no offensive goal tend was called. The breaks just didn’t go our way.”

“They made it really hard to get the ball inside. Tyler (Cavanaugh) played hard but he was struggling. Kevin (Larsen) was a non-factor today. We had to rely on our outside game. We don’t really have a lot of penetrating guards. That isn’t our strength. We took some bad shots. It seemed like whenever we took a bad shot (Cincinnati) took it and capitalized on the other end.”

George Washington Guard Joe McDonald

“It was nice to hit some outside shots. Aside from Patricio (Garino) everyone else has been struggling. We only had ten two-point shots made today. We shot well from outside, but we didn’t really get much inside. Our forwards are our strength and we struggled inside. That was probably the biggest difference in the game.”
