Mike Lonergan on Barclays Center Classic: November 27
Barclays Center Classic
November 27, 2015
George Washington 73 – Tennessee 70
George Washington Head Coach Mike Lonergan
On tonight’s game
“I’m very happy we came away with the win. I thought we had the lead up to where we were going to pull away in the second half. But give (Tennessee) credit. We were undisciplined defensively. They have a terrific coach. They did a really good job getting back in the game by taking advantage of our turnovers. We shot the ball poorly from three, but we made enough plays to win the game. We are excited to be playing in the championship against a really good team in Cincinnati. I’m happy for our guys because for the second year in a row we get to play in the championship of an in-season tournament.”
On George Washington Forward Tyler Cavanaugh
“He is having a great season. He has been what we needed. We knew he could rebound and he’s a really good three point shooter.”
On playing Cincinnati in the Barclays Center Classic Championship Game
“I’m excited. I really wanted to play them. They are ranked. It’s tough for us to get non-conference ranked opponents during the season. I told the guys all week not to overlook Tennessee, they have one of the best coaches in the country and they play really hard. To get an opportunity to play a ranked team we had to win tonight…I’m excited to play a very well coached, great defensive team. Hopefully we will play a little better for 40 minutes.”

On George Washington rebounding effort
“That’s something that we pride ourselves on; rebounding every night.”
George Washington Guard Joe McDonald
On playing at Barclays Center
“(My confidence level) is very high here. We always have a good turnout with our fan base here. That’s always a good thing. They support us very well. I think we are all pretty comfortable here.”
