Dayton’s Cooke Named A-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Cooke led Dayton to a pair of road wins, scoring 47 points while taking just 22 shots. He averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals a game, shooting 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the field and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from 3-point range. A guard from Trenton, N.J., Cooke scored 21 points at St. Bonaventure and then had a career-high 26 points at Fordham. After UD took a big lead at SBU, the Bonnies mounted a comeback that had them down six with when Cooke blocked Marcus Posley’s 3-point attempt to seal the win. While Fordham was cutting the Dayton lead down to single digits late, Cooke went on a personal 8-0 run in the final five minutes to secure the victory. Cooke has scored in double figures in 11 straight games, and is averaging 20.3 points a game in A-10 play.

Bishop led the Billikens with 18.5 points per game last week as SLU picked up a pair of wins - at home against Davidson and on the road at UMass. The guard from Queens, N.Y., shot a sizzling 61.9 percent from the field, averaged 4.5 rebounds per game and dished out seven assists while committing just one turnover. He scored a career-high 23 points in the win over Davidson, which included a perfect 8-of-8 performance from the stripe and a career-high three 3-pointers. He also had a career high six rebounds and six assists against the Wildcats. Bishop then scored 14 points on the road in the win at UMass. He earned his first A-10 Rookie of the Week honor last week.


Davidson’s Jack Gibbs scored 26 points, had six rebounds, five assists, and three steals at Saint Louis … UD freshman Steve McElvene scored had three blocked shots in two Dayton wins, moving him into the Dayton top 10 single-season blocks after just 18 games … L.G. Gill scored 18 points in each of Duquesne’s games last week, shooting 50 percent (13-for-26) from the field and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from three … Marquise Moore had a 12-point, 16-rebound double-double versus Duquesne and scored 18 at Fordham … Jarvis Garrett scored 15 points on 6-for-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from three in Rhode Island’s lone game at GW … St. Bonaventure’s Marcus Posley averaged 30.5 points against two of the A-10’s top defensive teams - 31 vs. Dayton and 30 at VCU and now has four games this season of 30 points or more … Saint Joseph’s DeAndre’ Bembry averaged 16.5 points per game, 5.0 assists per game and 4.0 steals per game in a pair of Philadelphia wins for the Hawks … Saint Louis’ Ash Yacoubou scored a career-high 27 points on 12-of-21 (.571) from the field and 3-for-6 (.500) from 3-point range … JeQuan Lewis averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 assists in two VCU wins, including 26 points and seven dimes in a rallying win over St. Bonaventure Sunday.
