During its first year, Barclays Center redefined the customer service experience in the New York market, in which the arena’s more than 2,000 employees were trained by Disney Institute, the business advisory arm of The Walt Disney Company. In addition to launching its BrooklynTaste™ food program, which features selections from well-known Brooklyn restaurants and vendors, Barclays Center engaged the customer with state-of-the-art technology to enhance the fan experience. Barclays Center was the first arena in the world to utilize Cisco StadiumVision mobile multicast streaming technology, allowing fans to watch live video and watch instant replays from their mobile phones while in the arena.

In year one, Barclays Center became a leading concert venue, hosting world-class entertainers, as well as the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. During the first six months of 2013, Barclays Center was the top-grossing U.S. venue for concerts and family shows (second in the world) and sold more tickets in these categories than any other U.S. venue (third in the world), according to Billboard magazine and Pollstar magazine, respectively.

Along the way, Barclays Center was recognized for its achievements by multiple organizations, including: Pollstar Awards’ Best New Major Concert Venue, 2012; Sports Business Awards’ Sports Facility of the Year, 2013; Architizer A+ Awards’ New Building of the Year, 2013; and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Brooklyn Building Award for Economic Development, 2013.
