Jan 13, 2015

BROOKLYN (January 13, 2015) – After just its second full year in existence, Barclays Center ranked in the top two of the highest grossing U.S. venues in 2014, according to the new issues of Billboard and Venues Today.

In Billboard’s and Venues Today’s 2014 year-end reports, Barclays Center finished second in total gross of major U.S. arenas with capacities of 15,001 or more, and was fourth worldwide (Nets games not included). In addition, Pollstar ranked Barclays Center as No. 2 in tickets sold for U.S. venues.

The rankings mark the second consecutive year that Barclays Center was ranked in the top two among U.S. venues.

Open for just 27 months, Barclays Center finished second in both gross and ticket sales to Madison Square Garden.

“In just two full years, we are proud to have become a global destination that is bringing the best programming to Brooklyn,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. “In concluding 2014 with Elton John’s sold-out New Year’s Eve show, we appreciate the continued positive feedback from promoters and artists and are excited to soon announce several major events and unique programming alliances.  In fact, we anticipate replicating our success with Barclays Center at Nassau Coliseum as we begin renovating Long Island’s venue this summer. I also want to congratulate the 135-year old MSG for being the No. 1 ranking venue in the U.S. this past year.”

Since its momentous opening on September 28, 2012, Barclays Center has hosted more than 4.5 million people at nearly 500 events. In 2014, Brooklyn’s biggest stage hosted world-class entertainers such as Elton John, Justin Timberlake, JAY Z, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Marc Anthony, along with nationally televised events including Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Fashion Rocks, and the 2014 NBA Draft. NBA All-Star 2015 events will be held at Barclays Center on Feb. 13-15.

Barclays Center’s BROOKLYN HOOPS college basketball franchise continues to flourish.  Barclays Center has been selected as a host site for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament in 2016, while the ACC Tournament will be held at the venue in 2017 and 2018. The Atlantic 10 Championship will be held at Barclays Center in 2015 and 2016, and return from 2019-2021. Overall, Barclays Center will host nearly 40 games this season.

Under its BROOKLYN BOXING franchise, Barclays Center has hosted 10 nights of major professional boxing on Showtime, HBO, and FOX Sports 1.

With the success of college basketball and boxing, Barclays Center’s sports programming will expand next season when the New York Islanders, one of the NHL’s hottest teams, will move to Brooklyn to join the Nets as the borough’s second major professional team.

Rounding out the full calendar of entertainment is Barclays Center’s BROOKLYN FAMILY franchise, which also had a successful year featuring an 11-show run of Disney on Ice’s Frozen that welcomed more than 110,000 guests to the venue.
